Basic Knowledge of Cylindrical Roller Bearings

Cylindrical roller bearing is in line contact with the raceway and has high radial load capacity. It is adapt to both heavy and shock loads as well as high speed rotation.

Cylindrical roller bearing (CRB bearing) raceways and rollers are geometrically shaped. After improvement, the new structure design with high bearing capacity, rib and roller end not only improves the axial bearing capacity of the bearing, but also strengthens the lubrication between roller end and rib. The service performance of the bearing is improved.

Accuracy Grade:

Cylindrical roller bearings can be divided into P0, P6, P5, P4 and P2 according to the accuracy grade from low to high.


1. For cylindrical roller bearings of type N0000 with no rib on outer ring and type NU0000 with no rib on inner ring, they can bear relatively large radial load and have a high limit speed. However, they cannot limit the axial displacement of shaft or housing and cannot bear axial loads.

2. Cylindrical roller bearings NJ0000 and NF0000 with ribs on both inner and outer rings can limit the axial displacement in one direction of the shaft or housing and are able to withstand small axial loads in one direction. Bearings of type NU0000+HJ0000, NJ0000+HJ0000 and NUP0000 can restrain the axial displacement of shaft or housing in both directions within the axial clearance of the inlet bearing, and can withstand relatively small bi-directional axial loads.


The performance and reliability of the rolling bearing is greatly influenced by the material used in the production of its components. Generally, when selecting materials for manufacturing bearing rings and rolling elements, roller bearing factory would consider the factor include hardness related to bearing capacity, lubrication under rolling contact and different cleanliness, and dimensional stability. For the selection of the holder material, consideration should be given to friction, strain and inertia forces, and in some cases to whether the material will react with certain lubricants, solvents, coolants, refrigerants, etc. The relative importance of these considerations is also affected by other working parameters, such as corrosion, high temperature, impact load or a combination of these factors.

Contact sealing rings embedded in rolling bearings also have a significant impact on its performance and reliability. The materials used in its manufacture must have excellent oxidation resistance, heat resistance or chemical corrosion resistance.
